Unreal Engine 4 Tutorial - Importing Custom Characters

Battle your way through enchanting Middle Eastern-inspired environments that become more otherworldly as you journey on in Rumours From Elsewhere, an upcoming game due for release in Spring 2018, developed by independent creators Notte Studio Games. A fantasy action 3D sidescroller game incorporating platforming and rogue-lite elements, rendered in a highly colourful and charming low poly style.

I've been busy working on an upcoming indie video game 'Rumours From Elsewhere' for the last few months, we're currently gearing up to release our gameplay trailer and launch a Kickstarter campaign. As part of this I've been learning how to use Unreal Engine 4, and have produced a couple of tutorials, including my first video tutorial below of How to Import your own Custom Character from Maya to Unreal Engine 4.

Besides the above tutorial for Unreal Engine 4, I've also created a few picture-based ones:

- Create an Animated Water Fountain PART 1 PART 2

I hope to create a few more tutorials soon, and will be updating this blog with more of those plus more behind-the-scene previews from working on Rumours From Elsewhere.

If you have some free time be sure to have a look at our new website for the game and our social media pages which we update several times a week with new content www.rumoursfromelsewhere.co.uk

New Project and RTS Award!

Image above: 'Elsewhere' by Giacomo Ghigo, Notte Studios

First of all - I'm excited to share a bit about a new project I became involved with early this year. It's an independent video game developed by Giacomo Ghigo (who I also worked with previously on his animated film Falling in Love), Ben Goldman and James White (a fellow alumni from the Falmouth Animation & VFX degree course). I joined the project as a producer and have also branched into 3D level creation.

So far I have really enjoyed working on the project, however it has definitely been very challenging as I have not  really worked on game development before so I have been having to adapt my animation knowledge as much as possible. I am happy that I am learning a lot though, both production-wise and also 3D modelling skills. As the project is currently been developed on a shoe-string budget all of the crew have had to adapt and learn lots of new skills.

The game is called 'Rumours from Elsewhere' and our studio name is Notte Studios. To find out more you can follow the project on Twitter and Facebook. There you can find lots of concept art and animations from the game's development.

RTS Award and Festival updates

The animated film that I produced in my final year of university, Falling in Love, was nominated for a Royal Television Society South West Students Award. At the awards ceremony last week the film won Best Production design and was runner up for Best Animation. This means that the film is through the RTS National Student Awards!

In the above photo at the RTS SW Awards ceremony last week are myself (center) and the director of Falling in Love, Giacomo Ghigo (left), on the right is Mads Ogaard our university classmate who's animated film I Am Dyslexic won Best Animation at the ceremony.

This most recent award has added to a growing amount of Official Festival Selections and Awards for Falling in Love. The film itself is screening at the Arizona Film Festival later this month - for more regular updates follow me on Twitter!

Above is a promotional image of Falling in Love displaying some of the laurels it has earned so far.

My other final year project, Alphabet Patch has also been doing quite well on the festival circuit. Next week it is screening at the CMS International Children's Film Festival in India and also at Cartoons on the Bay in Turin, Italy. Again, for more regular updates follow me on Twitter.

A background

Recently I have been doing a lot of project brainstorming and planning, I've now started drawing some of these ideas out. Above is an experimental background, I like best the hutch but I see lots of areas to improve - I would like to make the image more clearly defined. I hope to have much more development work to upload here soon.

New Etsy Store

Sorry for the complete lack of blog posts recently. I am now developing Alphabet Patch in a few new directions that I am very excited about and I should be able to start sharing the progress with you soon. so stay tuned as I hope to begin blogging regularly again by the end of this month!

In other news, I have just opened a new Etsy store for my hand quilled Christmas cards and decorations. I've also added the opportunity to order custom hand painted nesting dolls. Currently I just have one set available but I am hoping to add more hand painted items soon.
Check the store out here if you are interested.
